Meet The Owners
Chairman of the Board: John Johnson, MD, MBA
Dr. John A. Johnson is a physician, business executive, private equity/venture capital investor, and philanthropist. A board-certified psychiatrist, over the past 35 years, Dr. Johnson has started, acquired, and grown a variety of healthcare organizations that he continues to own and operate including one of Ohio’s largest independent behavioral health centers, Access Ohio, and a 110-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital, Access Hospital, along with primary care centers, substance abuse and residential treatment facilities, and telemedicine and healthcare technology enterprises.
Outside of healthcare, his portfolio companies include US precision manufacturing and additive technologies, financial services, and real estate development and construction. It also includes a real estate portfolio of over 1.1 million square feet of commercial and residential buildings. His organizations employ over 700 people, primarily in the Midwest.
Dr. Johnson is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Wright State University and previously has had other academic roles including as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at The Ohio State University. He has completed medical training across Asia, Europe, and the US. He and his wife have resided for the past 25 years in Central Ohio, where they raised their two children.
President: Sugu Suguness, MS, PE, MBA
As the Managing Partner and President of Proto Precision Additive Manufacturing, Mr. Suguness is responsible for day-to-day management of all aspects of our operations. He has more than 30 years of engineering and entrepreneurial experience in the fields of Transportation, Civil, Structural, and Geotechnical Engineering.
As a serial entrepreneur, he has founded and built several engineering businesses and is currently a managing partner of Amaazz Group. Sugu Suguness earned his undergraduate degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and Master’s degree from The Ohio State University in engineering. He earned his MBA degree from Capital University in Columbus.

Meet The Team
Ed Herderick, PhD.
Dr. Edward D. Herderick serves as a strategic advisor to Proto Precision Additive. He is the Director of Additive Manufacturing for the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME) at The Ohio State University.
Ed is an internationally recognized expert in the industrialization of additive manufacturing. The guiding thread across his career has been a focus on implementing complex manufacturing technology solutions for industrial customers in aerospace, power generation, oil & gas, and transportation. He has held leadership roles in large companies, startups, and research institutes focused on AM. He is active in the materials community serving on the Board of Trustees for TMS and as the Industrial Editor for JOM. He received his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from The Ohio State University.
Greg Sabin, BSAE
Greg is Proto Precision Additive’s National Business Development Leader. Greg is an Aerospace Engineer with over 30 years of experience in the metal component design and manufacturing industry, including over ten years specifically in metal powder-bed manufacturing. Greg has worked for the Department of Defense, North Carolina State University, and a number of small businesses throughout the country. Greg has considerable experience in both electron beam melting and laser-based powder-bed primary build processes, and also with their post-build finishing processes and associated quality assessment methods and procedures. Greg has worked with many companies large and small to help identify the best value proposition from both a technical/performance perspective, and also from a business case perspective in metal additive manufacturing as companies adopt additive processes.
Charles Young, BSChE
Charlie Young is currently the Director of Business Development for the Center of Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME) in the College of Engineering for The Ohio State University. A large part of his time is dedicated to Proto Precision Additive in a business development advisory role.
Charlie retired from ABB in 2016 as Vice President / Global Managing Director for the Measurements and Analytics Business Unit where he was responsible for the P&L and all aspects of the business. He held multiple roles during his 32 year career with ABB in process automation including service, projects, sales management, manufacturing, and P&L Management. Charlie is a Chemical Engineer from The University of Virginia.
Alderson Neira, PhD.
Dr. Neira is our Additive Manufacturing Director of Operations supporting Proto Precision Additive’s best in class printing capabilities, R&D efforts and leveraging our intellectual property.
A material scientist from NC State University, with 15 years of experience in a wide variety of additive fabrication areas including but not limited to metal matrix composites, high entropy alloys, reactive near net shape processing, thermal process control, Multiphysics modeling, and product development and commercialization of additive manufactured components and functional products.
Victor Morgan, BSME, MSME
Victor is responsible for the design and design-for-additive aspects of AM and is developing novel in-situ inspection techniques for the rapid qualification of AM hardware. As a a mechanical component designer who is also experienced in additive manufacturing, he can work with your in-house design team to translate requirements into actionable AM requirements and inspection criteria, or design hardware to your specifications.
In prior roles, he spent 13 years at various positions with GE Power leading teams to design the next generation of gas-turbine hot-gas-path hardware including gas-turbine cooling and sealing technology. Victor has submitted 40+ patent applications and holds a BSME from Virginia Tech and a MSME from Georgia Tech.
David Schick, BSWE, MSWE
David is an Ohio State Welding Engineer and is responsible for creating processes to efficiently run Proto’s additive manufacturing machines. David has been working on additive manufacturing for nearly a decade in his work at GE Power leading materials and process development for metal additive. David was one of the first individuals at GE Power to actively obtain, run and optimize metal additive manufacturing equipment.
David helped create the GE Power Additive Manufacturing areas in the Greenville South Carolina Advance Manufacturing Works (AMW) comprising over ten additive manufacturing machines.
Collin Davis, BSME
Daniel Randlett, BSWE
Daniel is a Welding/Additive Engineer at Proto Precision. A recent graduate from the Welding Engineering program at The Ohio State University, Daniel provides knowledge and experience in joining materials and processes. His professional background is primarily in high volume automated arc welding. Daniel wants to use his combined familiarity with traditional joining processes and powder bed fusion to create hybrid components in novel new ways. Daniel is excited to have the opportunity to join an industry at the forefront of innovation like additive manufacturing.
In his personal time, Daniel enjoys reading science fiction literature. They provide a hypothetical window into a future where humanity continues to explore and expand their creative and scientific boundaries; a comforting thought in such turbulent times.
